Pianist/Organist
Position Summary:
The church pianist/organist performs music during church services, including hymns, anthems, and special music. Works with Music Director. Provides accompaniment for the choir. Attend rehearsals with the choir. Plays the organ and/or piano during church services, including hymns and liturgical music. Accompany the choir or soloists during rehearsals and performances. Performs at special services such as weddings, funerals, and holidays. Our ideal candidate is dedicated, reliable, and has a deep appreciation for sacred music.

Qualifications:
•    Work experience as a church organist and pianist or other musical 
•    background
•    Knowledge of and technical proficiency in playing sacred music
•    Ability to sight-read music
•    Understanding of music theory and ability to improvise

•    Ability to work well with others, especially choir members and church staff


Reporting Structure and Compensation: The person will report to the Music Director. Salary is based upon the candidate’s experience and qualifications and is set by the Church Council

Specific Duties: The above-named person shall have the following duties and responsibilities:
1.    Provide organ/piano music for all worship services, including Sunday 10:30 AM services, mid-week services (Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Holy Week) and all special occasions where the organ and/or piano are used. 

2.    Rehearse with and accompany the adult choir at mid-week rehearsals (normally Wednesday evenings from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m.) and 9:45 am prior to Sunday worship. The choir sings from mid-September through May. Summer Services held without choir, but with guest musicians or vocalists.

3.    Rehearse with and accompany soloists and instrumentalists for worship service and other special worship services, when necessary, on organ and/or piano.

4.    Provide regular organ/piano solo works (Prelude, Postlude and Offertory, and other supporting selections) for worship service and other special worship services, as needed.
5.    Work cooperatively with the Pastor and Director of Music to plan and prepare music for worship service and other special services.

6.    Provide organ or piano music for weddings and funerals held at Christ the King in collaboration with pastor or arrange for a substitute, if unavailable. (Pay for weddings, funerals, and memorial services is compensated additionally, based on an established fee schedule.

7.    Collaborate with the Director of Music to oversee the tuning and maintenance of the organ and piano as well as provide regular reports specifying maintenance needs to the Church Counsel President and Elder for Worship.

8.    Maintain a continuing professional level of musical training appropriate to the position as it evolves in the future.
