We all know about the continuing increases in gas prices and the way it is beginning to impact the cost of food and all other services. I saw the other day that corn prices are up 130%. These continuing cost increases, along with the slow economy, have made times tough for all of us, but particularly for the unemployed, the under employed and the elderly. These folks need our help, so LET’S DO SOMETHING!!
We have declared the 3rd Sunday of every month FOOD SUNDAY. Here’s how it works. Each month we will all focus on one particular non-perishable food item that the Kenner Food Bank can use and help them stock their shelves. Our May item was macaroni and cheese. This month we will focus on beans and rice, so pick some up while you are shopping and bring it to church on the weekend of June 19th and we’ll get it to the Food Bank. Of course, you can bring in other items if you want, but let’s see how much we can get by the 19th. Next month we’ll do another item.
Now we know there are probably some members of our congregation that could use some help as well and we want them to know that they are more than welcome to take advantage of the food that is brought. If you and your family could use some of the food or if you know of someone who could use the food, please let the pastor know and we’ll make sure that you are taken care of.
We want to thank the Lutheran Church of the Galilean in LaPlace for giving us the idea of the food drive and are looking forward to a great response from all of you. Also, for any questions, please contact me at 504-888-0024.
